Rebecca
has been studying yoga since 2001. She has developed a passion yoga since that very first class, and has now added teaching to the list of things she enjoys. She finished a Vinyasa style teacher training at Flow Yoga in February 2007, receiving her RYT status. She has been teaching at Edge ever since. Her favorite asanas are inversions, because they are challenging and involve a complete change in perspective to master.
Sabina
discovered the ancient art of yoga in the Pacific Northwest, and since then her yoga path is ever evolving. She studied Hatha Yoga on the island of Bali, Indonesia where she was certified by eclectic and passionate teachers, Ki McGraw and Bob Smith of the Hatha Yoga Center in Seattle. Her path led her to DC where she was drawn to power vinyasa yoga. She completed a 200 hour training in Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga at Down Dog in Georgetown. She is passionate about yoga, and continually seeks to grow as a teacher and student of yoga. She is honored to serve her students and is committed to teaching with safety and body awareness. There are wonderful benefits to a yoga practice, clarity, spacious opening, lightness, free-flowing energy, well-being, flexibility, and strength among many -- she is delighted to share this powerful and healthy practice with you. Om Shanti.
Rossana
Lo,
came upon
yoga in the late 1990s when she was reveling in her
adrenaline-pumping work in tv and radio news, and pursuing
graduate studies at the Missouri School of Journalism. Many
downward-facing dogs, triangles, and side planks later, she
pursued the 200-hour yoga teacher training through LA and
NYC-based YogaWorks. That's probably when her fiery excess
of pitta started to balance out. Rossana brings a sense of
laughter and joy to her classes as she blends elements of
Iyengar's precise alignment and Ashtanga's vigor and flow,
with attention to the breath. She always advocates respect
for where the body, mind, and spirit are for the moment that
is now. Rossana also enjoys the fluidity of the vinyasa
style, and the utter relaxation and surrender from
restorative yoga. Rossana earned her A.B. in East Asian
Studies from Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges. She is a
registered yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance. and has a bit
more vata with her pitta these days.
Nikki's
yoga practice began in 2003 on a cold winter
day in Montana. Looking out the window at the wind and snow
she knew that there was no facing the extremities to go
running. Turning to one of her yoga DVDs purchased for just
this type of situation, she was hooked after the first
“class”. Moving back to DC in the summer Nikki began a more
vigorous and regular practice which quickly lead to formal
teacher training at Tranquil Space studio. She completed a
200-hour Yoga certification in April 2005. Since then Nikki
has also completed Baby and Me teacher training and earned a
Pilates certification from the Pilates Institute of
Maryland. Nikki is a Registered Yoga Teacher with the Yoga
Alliance and is dedicated to continuing her mind/body
education. Her favorite part of class is when she
leaves…feeling a little bit stronger, a little bit lighter
and a lot happier!!
Sasha-Vanessa
found yoga in 1995 after suffering knee surgery and back pain in a skiing accident. She was an aerobics instructor teaching mindless hours of step, boxing, and sculpt classes. Embarking on her yoga journey, her initial interest was ashtanga yoga because of its physically-demanding quick-paced class structure. Then she wanted to deepen her daily practice with hatha style and slow down her racing mind (and body!). Pilates-Mat and Pilates-Reformer were part of her exercise routine to rehabilitate her aching back, having suffered three herniated disks and a torn ligament and meniscus in her left knee.
Sasha-Vanessa found daily meditation as a way to find a
tranquil mind and a healthier body image. In 2000, she took
her first yoga teacher training with Bryan Kest. She's come
a long way, completing a 200-hour vinyasa yoga teacher
training with Tranquil Space Yoga in Washington, DC and
another 300-hour samayama yoga teacher training and personal
training certification with CityFitness in Washington, DC.
Her sources of inspiration are her students, Shiva Rea,
Bryan and Johnny Kest, and Baron Baptiste. Her passion for
pilates encouraged her to walk, run and participate in
marathons, half-marathons and ten-mile races pain-free.
She credits her self-practice of yoga and pilates and
teaching (pilates-mat and pilates reformer) classes as her
"saving grace" mentally and physically. She is hopeful to
share her uplifting and happy spirit with all of those who
practice yoga with her and enjoy her classes. Sasha-Vanessa
incorporates meditation, vinyasa yoga and pilates in her
life as a way to maintain balance and peace.
